GPE in action

Focused investments: For effective teaching to happen, teachers must have the right knowledge and skills as well as professional development opportunities. GPE invests in pre- and in-service training, coaching and mentoring, teacher management, and teaching tools such as teachers’ guides. GPE uses a portion of its grants to encourage the delivery of policy reforms that address obstacles to effective teaching.

Better planning and data: GPE supports countries to invest in assessing teaching quality, and in using evidence-based policies and programs to improve quality.

Giving teachers a voice: Teachers and school leaders understand local needs and realities, so GPE encourages them to take part in discussions on education and supports the inclusion of teacher organizations in local education groups.

Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX): KIX investments in research and innovation help countries improve both the quality of teaching and the effectiveness of teachers. The KIX regional hubs encourage countries to learn from their peers on innovative approaches that have improved teaching standards and children’s learning. KIX support includes three global grants focused on teacher professional development.
